Disabled Access Providers Sesame Access Support Charity Rugby Game for the Motor Neurone Disease Association
Leading wheelchair lift providers Sesame Access Systems were the proud sponsors of a charity rugby match last month, all in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The expert team at Sesame feel passionately about fundraising when it comes to disabilities, and their participation in the Cheryl Leach Rugby Challenge Cup heralded a fantastic day for a worthy cause, raising funds and awareness for an important condition.
Cheryl Leach was an avid rugby fan and mother of Stephen Leach, a long-time friend of Sesame’s Managing Director, Steven Lyons. Cheryl played for Lewisham Ladies RFC and Staines RFC, before she was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Cheryl sadly passed away in 2004, but not before the Cheryl Leach Cup was set up, to raise funds and awareness for other sufferers.
Steven Lyons, Managing Director of Sesame Access, said, “I have known Cheryl and Stephen for many years, and was honoured to join my ex-rugby team to play again for the Cheryl Leach Challenge Cup event. The cup raises lots of money for MNDA, and I am very proud to be able to act as a sponsor for events in aid of this important cause.”
Stephen Leach, son of Cheryl, said, “Mum played rugby for a number of years, but she had to retire due to health reasons. She kept her passion for rugby alive by supporting me through my own rugby development, seeing me go from an uninterested, head-scratching kid in the mini leagues, to the captain of The Dirty Ducks, based in Staines. The Cheryl Leach Challenge Cup is a fitting tribute to Mum, and we’ve managed to raise a lot of money and awareness for a cause that is very important to myself and my family.”
