Top 12: Xavier (X-Men)

Charles Xavier, better known as Professor X, is a fictional yet inspirational character from the popular Marvel series X-Men. Although all the most popular drawings of Professor X are in a wheelchair, that is not how he is scripted to have begun his life, instead being confined to a wheelchair after having a large boulder dropped purposely to crush his legs by a hostile alien attempting the invade the earth.

Although Professor X is an entirely fictional character, the moral bearing of his role within the X-Men series is not. Professor X did not let his outward disability get the better of him, despite his incredibly lofty ambitions. In fact, the fact he was disabled didn’t serve to alter his plans in any way whatsoever, instead making him more determined.

Professor X is depicted to die in the third of an X-Men trilogy X-Men: The Last Stand, whilst trying to reason with one of his ex-students who had her morals re-aligned by Xavier’s arch enemy and once best friend Magneto. Nevertheless, Professor X is shown to never once stray from his goal, instead providing an inspirational driving force for those around him, showing that a difference in appearance, abilities or characteristics are a blessing in disguise.

My name is Charles Xavier. I am a mutant. And once upon I had a dream… of a world where all Earth’s children, both mutant and baseline human, might live together in peace. This isn’t it. This is today’s reality.
