• The lift

  The British Library Lift is a rising platform lift permanently built into the stage and operated by a single staff member. This lift allows wheelchair users or furniture to be easily raised to stage level.

  The lift table can be made to accept any cladding material, the thicker the cladding the deeper the pit depth.

  Nominal platform dimensions for this lift can vary due to site requirements. However, they are more than or equal to:
  

  1400 mm (l) x 1100 mm (w) 0 – 820 mm (h)

  Please see the lifting actuator link for more information on the requirement for an upper landing barrier if the total rise is greater than 500 mm.

• The upper landing barrier

  If the rise is less than 200 mm there is no requirement for an upper landing barrier. However, if it is more than 200 mm there will be upper landing barriers.

• User type

  The British Library Platform Lift is for wheelchair users only. For information as to why this is please click on the on lift barriers link.

  However, to accommodate non-wheelchair users, we can add manual removable barriers to the lift design.

  If the surrounding area presents a crush zone the lift table can be fitted with safety edges to detect an obstruction. Please see the crush hazards surrounding the moving lift for more information.

• Variations to the Wembley Stair Lift​

  A rising button post that rises through the lift platform when the stairs retract can be added. The post then retracts completely out of sight when not in use. An example of the rising button post can be seen here: Knightsbridge Stair Lift.
