The Building
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is based at 2 Savoy Place, London, on Victoria Embankment. The foundation stone was laid by Queen Victoria in 1886 and the building was completed in 1889.
The building recently underwent a £30 million refurbishment, opening again in 2015. The venue now offers cutting edge technology, inspiring event spaces and London’s newest roof terrace.
IET was formed by The Society of Telegraph Engineers (STE) in 1871 and now is the largest multidisciplinary professional engineering institution in the world. IET has branches across the world, including Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, India, Kuwait and Europe.
IET issues many awards and scholarships to student engineers each year, including the Young Woman Engineer Award to encourage more women to enter the engineering profession.
"Wow!" moment for Sesame
The Sesame Westminster stairlift at IET is our largest retracting stairlift so far with 11 steps. Clad in stone, it integrates beautifully into the building. British Engineering and innovation at its best.
